dded to the constant demands of our everyday lives, remodeling a home can be stressful. So, you might ask yourself if it’s better to stay in the house during the project or if it is better to move out until your contractors are done. We hope these pros and cons can help you decide whether you should stay in your home or not.

PROs OF STAYING IN YOUR HOUSE DURING A REMODEL

1. You save money on renting a temporary apartment.

If you don’t want to spend money on hotel rooms or temporary apartments, you could stay in your own house during the renovation. When you add up the cost of building a new house, buying furniture, and all the other expenses which come with moving into a new place, you may realize that it would be cheaper to stay in your home while undergoing a renovation.

2. You can monitor the construction.

Being onsite gives you an advantage in terms of knowing what is happening at all times. If you live in your house during a renovation then you see all the changes that are being brought into the picture. However, if you do not live in your house during the construction period, then it can be challenging to keep track of all the changes that have taken place. Even if pictures are sent by your builders they might not adequately depict what’s going on.

3. It can be more convenient for you.

You do not want to have to drive back and forth between your job or school, and your home. You are going to have enough things on your mind so not having to worry about staying away from home and reorganizing your daily routine is a good thing.

CONs OF STAYING IN YOUR HOUSE DURING A REMODEL

On-going construction

1. It is not very safe especially if you are living with children or pets.

People renovating their houses are having at least two problems. The first one is how to keep the house clean, safe, and still usable during the duration of work. The second one is how to solve all the problems that come with staying in a house full of dust, debris, paint spots, or objects falling from somewhere. This becomes a safety issue especially if you have little kids and hyperactive pets who are usually playing around the house.

2. It may be inconvenient moving around the house.

During any home construction project, you will need ample space to carry out the construction. If you are lucky, you may have got enough space at your home. If you have limited space, then you may have to move a lot of furniture and carefully walk around your house at all times to avoid bumping into something. Additionally, it could be pretty awkward for some to have workmen at your house every day.

3. It can get noisy.

Noisy home improvement projects are one of the primary reasons people leave their homes during renovation. It is especially hard to stay in your house when noise is accompanied by high levels of dust and chemical vapors. This becomes even more difficult if you are someone who works from home and needs to constantly concentrate on your work for at least eight hours a day.

Do you need to live in your home during the remodel? Not necessarily. Remodeling while living in your house can be risky and may even be impossible. But at the end of the day, it depends on your budget, personal preferences, and how much remodeling will take place.
